1/2400 scale WW2 ships

Post by NDNG_Matt_Varnish »

Been working on a few things during this Virus Lockdown... I've finished my A-10s for Team Yankee (article coming) but I've also dabbled into some naval wargaming. I balked at Cruel Seas, because I feel the scale was way too big for me. I bit down hard on Black Seas, love the models and the game places nicely once you get some of the rules. I was waiting for Victory at Sea when it was announced Warlord were re-releasing it.. but not only is the scale a tad big, but those raised bases were a buzz kill for me. Luckily, a friend of mine had nailed down printing in 3D some ships. I;ve been burned on 3d printing before.. but whatever magic he used.. these bad boys turned out GREAT!

Went with Royal Navy. Look how some setting he used to melt the top surfaces to be super smooth and not having a million print lines! I used some liquid plastic glue to 'melt' some of the lines on the radio masts.. but still.. these turned out GREAT:

He even printed me some bases. We are planning on using Naval Thunder rules, but honestly, once you have ships, there is a tonne of rules you can use. With a bit of research, I painted my first ship, the HMS Berwick. Its a County-class heavy cruiser.. I picked the Berwick because it had 'Mountbatten Pink' on it. For some reason, Lord Mountbatten after noticing a merchant ship painted with pink dazzle disappeared from view first at sunset, ordered some pink onto his squadron's ships. I mean, who can countermand the future-husband-of-the-Queen's-Uncle right? the pink is VJ Game Colour Heavy Warm Pink

Nice! The closest thing I have to compare is Panzerschiffe's resins. These are much, much better for non metal castings. They look great.

Nice looking fleet! I guess I'll be passing on Victory at Sea myself.
Playing Flames of War (main focus) and its variants, Bolt Action, Test of Honor, SW Legion, SW Armada, and now....Cruel Seas

Yea I was so shocked by the quality of the 3d prints... so much better than my previous BTR's and T-62s
