Terrain Crate by Mantic – Cool 28mm Terrain for Blood and Plunder (and more)

By Tom Gall

If you enjoy playing Blood and Plunder or other skirmish games in 28mm, the one thing I love to have on the table is all sorts of brick-a-brack to give the scene plenty of flavor. I like my tables to look historic.

For this Blood and Plunder game on land, sure it looks like a little farmstead or a little inn, the fences fit it, the road is great, but I’m wanting a little more on the table top.

Where are the farm animals? How about a little wagon? Crates, barrels, the various things you’d expect to see in this kinda era and besides it can add in some extra places for impromptu cover that your heroes might need as they are doing their daring do.

As I was up in the Twin Cities this weekend, at a FbnsLGS (Friendly but not so Local Game Store), what did I happen to see on the shelf?

TerrainCrate by Mantic. This was something I’d run across on Kickstarter and at the time I didn’t have the funds to buy in but it was sure tempting me. Now that they’ve gotten past their kicker starter and are on their , I think this is something that’s well worth your time to take a look into.

What they have are various packages of themed terrain.

In this case here, of course, this is more aimed at the dungeon crawling crowd, which obviously Blood and Plunder or Sharps Practice aren’t. Ignoring that bit, however, everything in this box is exactly the kind of thing found near to or on the docks of your average adventure involving the Spanish main, so PERFECT!

What’s in the box?

Lots of terrain of course. It’s not exactly pre-painted and that’s entirely ok. This is a just few colors, and a wash away from insta-terrain for the tabletop.

The material is a hard plastic and in my gamer mind worth the cost. This box was about $25 USD.

They do have smaller and larger sets. They make a gallows and set of stocks. That set goes for about $8.

, I think you’ll agree that for the 28mm tabletop, these are a great addition to your gaming night for your historical skirmish game.
