FOAN: The Jordanians

The Jordanians possessed one of the most professional Arab armies in the post-WW II period.  With a long British tradition and friendly relations with the Americans, they had plenty of British and American second-hand equipment for their small army.  However, the Jordanians were not eager for this fight.  King Hussein tried to act as the honest-broker to prevent the war, but when that failed, felt compelled to join the Arab side.  This is reflected in a better than average Remount/ Rally/ Counterattack score, but a morale of 5+ across the board.

You can have a variety of formations.  Three tanks, Centurion(20-pdr), Centurion (105mm) or Patton tanks and either a Mech or Leg Infantry choice.

The tank formation are all the same TO&E with the exception of the tank choice.  Here is a summary of your choices:

Centurion (20-pdr) FA 13, AT 16 and 2.5 pts/tank

Centurion (105mm) FA 13, AT 18 and 5 pts/tank. This version has a brutal round.

M-48 Patton (90mm) FA 13, AT 16 and 4 pts/tank.  The Patton is significantly faster too.

My favorite is the Centurion(105mm) since that AT 18 really threatens any of the Israeli tanks.

Note the pair of M42 Dusters that you can take for AA.

Since man cannot live by tanks alone, you probably want one of the two infantry formations also.

The Mech Inf sports M-113s to get around

The infantry platoon is not that strong since it lacks the Sagger missiles of their Egyptian and Syrian allies.  Only a lone Super Bazooka, which is good, but won’t stop a tank assault.

 

Of you can go straight leg infantry which are more like a Fortified Company from FoW v3.

Each platoon comes with two minefields and four barbed wire obstacles with the ability to buy two more.  The HMG bunker is what you would think it was, but the really interesting platoon here is the Weapons Nests.

 

The key here is to go for the three 106mm Recoilless Rifles which are going to make these un-assaultable to tanks.  Placing them next to the infantry platoon above mean the 106 Recoiless protects the infantry from tank assault and the infantry’s barbed wire keeps any Israeli infantry from assaulting the nests.

Last, there are the support choices available to the Jordanians.  They have no option for Air Support, but plenty of artillery and another AA Platoon.

My “must have” support choice is the 25pdr battery.

This battery is deadly as their direct fire range of 24″ and ROF 2 will keep away any but main battle tanks.  With the new Early TY artillery rules which mimic FoW V4, the re-roll of infantry and gun saves will make it tough to bring Israeli forces to bear against the Jordanians.

Jordanians might not be the obvious choice, but I built them with the original rule set and find them very interesting to use.  Hope that someone decides to fight against me one day soon.
