By Mitch Reed

I hope many of you can recall my article from the Connections Wargaming Conference in 2022 and the podcast from 2019 that spoke to this event. The 2023 event held at National War College in Washington DC was yet another for the record books and we here at NDNG were glad to attend in force as well as help sponsor the Dice-Breaker social event.

Firelock Games: Fire on the Frontier Overview and Oak & Iron with GWUS

By Mitch Reed

The makers of Blood & Plunder leave the high seas behind to immerse players in some of the most interesting fights that have ever taken place in North America. The new Fire on the Frontier book from Firelock Games takes the game in a new direction and now you can play with many of the forces that were seen in King Phillip’s and King William’s War that took place between 1675 and 1697.

Firelock Games reveals ‘War Stories: roleplaying WW2’

By Tyler Stone

As things get back to normal in the world (hooray, Historicon on the horizon!) are ramping up their offering of games yet again. Besides to their tabletop wargames ‘Blood & Plunder,’ ‘Oak & Iron,’ and ‘Blood & Valor‘, they’re making their first forays into some bold new territory; Historical Roleplaying Games.

Although they are sticking to their ‘piratical’ roots with ‘Under the Black Flag‘, it’s their World War 2 entry which is the furthest along. They’re missing a prime marketing opportunity by not calling it ‘Hedgerows & Hetzers,’ but the team at Firelock has decided on the much less tongue-in-cheek title of ‘War Stories‘.

Piracy in the Age of Plastics: Firelock’s New Golden Age Pirates Faction List from Raise The Black

By Glenn Van Meter

The Gentlemen of Fortune over at recently gave us a preview snippet from the new expansion book Raise the Black from their upcoming Kickstarter, which kicks off on October 6th. As the new expansion brings the game into the 18th century and the Golden Age of Piracy, I thought it rather exciting that the first list spotted would be one of the new pirate factions. So, let’s raise the black flag and jump right in to see what it’s worth!

The new faction is the Golden Age Pirates (1690-1730), and they are what you would imagine a pirate crew to be from any Hollywood film. The faction special rules really help give this list the character you would expect in a force of bloodthirsty, throat-cutting pirates straight from the Spanish Main. They get the previous pirate faction rule allowing them to fly false colors when attacking, which lets them come upon their prey and catch them unawares – or at least start a lot closer to the ever-important booty.

List build Like a Pirate: Making your Blood and Plunder Force

Avast ye mateys, once again Talk Like a Pirate Day is upon us; this buccaneer is going to tell you how to take the first steps in playing the game which commemorates this day every day, Blood and Plunder. I was shanghaied onto the B&P sloop for well over a year now, and I have shared some grog with the swashbucklers at .

Many of you have read about the game and some of you have even played it. I know a lot of folks are like scurvy dogs who see the names like Sea Dogs, Les Enfants Perdue, and Freebooter and get confused on how to actually buy a force for this game. To be honest is easier than walking the plank. With this article, you will learn the ropes of this game and be able to tell a mizzen mast from the poop deck.

When I first started playing this game I was able to use to build my force, however, the folks from Firelock starter their own that includes all of the new forces, including those from No Peace Beyond the Line. I will take you through this excellent force builder and talk a bit on how to build a list.
