A Pirate’s Last Chance – “Raise the Black” The Last Hurrah

By Tom Chairborne Mullane

It’s peak season for leaf peepers here in New England. Cold temperatures usually accompany autumn in the North East, but this year has seen some really warm weather. I took the opportunity to play some demo games with my friend Tim outside.

Tim and the other gamers from in Catskill NY play a pretty diverse array of games. Blood and Plunder isn’t officially carried by the store, so I’ve been painting commissions for folks to get them started. I am painting a Pirate force for Tim, and he wanted a refresher on the rules before he dived into the kickstarter.

My Dad and I have also been selling hotdogs out of our roadside stand in Hudson NY as a way for him to kill some of his free time. (as a limo driver doing mostly airport work, he hasn’t had a lot of trips lately). So I packed my car full of Tables and Terrain, along with a bunch of my models, and headed for Hudson, NY.

Behold a fall game, outside with a hot dog cart as an available caterer.

It was super windy, so I had to find a lot of loose pumpkins to stop the cards from blowing away. Tim and I were able to get in 3 games, (I lost all of them, as is tradition) I had prebuilt some lists that allowed each of us to try different types of Units, at different veteran levels. I have mostly Dutch forces, with some special character thrown in. Tim took to the game quickly, as I find most people do when I’m able to run demos.

As I started to run down all the things I was getting with my pledge with the , Tim kept asking questions. As someone getting his hands on a Pirate force he was strongly considering jumping in but remained on the fence. For those of you sitting on the sidelines and waiting for the final 48 hours before we cross the finish line on November 3rd, your time is running out.

I have been busy on Tim’s commission of late, and managed to get the majority of it done during Glenn, Tyler, and my regular Paint Night events “No Paint Behind the Line”

For those of you looking for some content on Raise the Black check out some of the links below.  My fellow podcasters here at No Dice No Glory, Glenn, and Tyler have been busy list building. As have the excellent folks at Blood and Pigment.

I’ll close by congratulating Mike, Rufus, Adam, and the whole Firelock Crew for funding on their first day. And also thank the many brave men and women who so devotedly helped fill our Plunder Boxes with goodies. I’ll close by telling you to check out the Enjoy them on the Blood and Buccaneering Across the Spanish Main Facebook page, and if you’re reading this before November 3rd go pledge now, before its too late!
