First Look: Starcraft Tabletop Miniatures Game Sprues

By Aaron Kamakawiwoole

Hey Reader!

A new tabletop war game is hitting the scene this March: the Starcraft Tabletop Miniatures Game (hereafter “Starcraft”). I purchased their promo figure for Zeratul to see the quality of the models they’re producing and how easy they are to assemble.

Zeratul: one of the main Protoss characters from the game series

For those not familiar with Archon Studios, they have been producing high-quality miniatures for licensed and original games for years, but from the beginning the game they wanted to make was Starcraft (the name of their company is a reference to a Protoss elite unit!). So working with Blizzard Entertainment is literally a dream come true for them.

And they’ve gone all-out: let’s take a look at what they’re producing and the quality of it.

First, it’s high-end plastic with parts that insert cleanly into each other (you can see some of the insert nodes and insert points here on the back of the sprue). Details are crisp, and no mold lines!

Second, looking at the front of the sprue, you can see a pre-detailed base (not a plain 40mm base like you normally get with kits) and highly detailed parts. But the psi-blade that all Protoss have is missing, because…

Every kit come with clear plastic bits (specially treated to avoid yellowing over time), which is awesome! You can construct Zeratul fully in clear plastic parts to make him appear invisible, but however you assemble him, it comes with two transparent blades, so the blade will look stunning either way.

The assembly instructions are easy to follow, and even use different colors to show the variations in poses. And to make it easier, they have numbers next to each piece!

We have also seen some of the models (pending licensor approval) at Essen Spiel this past fall, and they look awesome:

Not only are the sculpts dynamic with cool uses of the clear plastic, they paint up well as well:

I went with a blend of the clear and standard pieces, making it look like he’s just coming out of cloaking to strike:

So if you’re looking for a new game to start this year, starter sets and starter armies will be up for pre-order in January 2026, with an arrival date in March 2026, with waves of units dropping every 2 months, with 7 years worth of releases pre-planned. So this game isn’t going anywhere!

And with access to every Starcraft game, novel, and sourcebook that has ever been made, Archon has no lack of options for units, subfactions, and eras in the history of the Koprulu Sector. It’s an exciting time to be getting into the game!

If you’re looking for more information on it, keep watching this space!
