Team Yankee User Content: The Turkish Army

With the release of Oil Wars,  the new book for just about to be spoiled in about a week we here at NDNG want to give you another force to use with this new release. Manning the southern and eastern most flank of NATO sits the Turkish army, ready to fight against the USSR. However alongside this threat the Turkish nations sits near other hot-spots of the mid 1980’s. Turkey also borders the nations of Iraq and Iran, two nations that are represented in the new Oil Wars book.

A few months ago NDNG put the call out to the community to send us forces, rules, and even games they have developed to augment the games they play. Andy Thompson heeded this call and sent us a bunch of lists for both Flames of War and Team Yankee. When I saw that he developed the Turkish Army for Team Yankee I quickly decided to work with him to finalize this list in time for the upcoming Oil Wars book. Having seen the new book in the draft stages I felt that developing this force was a must to bring to the community to give another force that would certainly mix well with Oil Wars. A quick look at a map will show you why I thought this. What Andy sent to us was a very good draft that was very close to being final. The NDNG crew looked over this lists and recommended changes based on what is found in other Team Yankee lists as well as being a worthy opponent for the new forces contained in Oil Wars. Over a few weeks Andy and I worked on the 3rd Turkish Mechanized Division and I feel the end result of the hard work will bring you an interesting option to play.

Andy did a lot of research here and asked for advice from Team Yankee players from Turkey who served in the Turkish Army. I feel this attention to detail really gave the Turkish Forces some great flavor and even has me thinking of getting yet more Leopard 1 tanks to make a Turkish Tank force.

One thing you will notice is that the Turkish Army being a conscript force made up of soldiers who spend only a limited time in uniform leads to them having a higher morale rating that other NATO forces. However keeping in mind that their officers tended to be professionals and the ferocity they showed in combat dating back to Gallipoli, Andy wanted to give them a better Counterattack rating than a lot of other nations. I felt his rationale was sound and I agreed with the ratings the Turkish were given.

Even with this said I feel you will really love playing with these Turkish lists which can be found . The PDF has multiple lists and gives you details on what boxes and blisters you need to create your force and instructions on how to paint your troops and tanks.
