Dishdash Games Ultracombat Moderns: Modern US Army Review
Following a successful campaign, is due to release additions to their in the coming months. These additions include a variety of US and Russian miniatures including nine-man fire teams for both nations. The metal models come in a healthy variety of poses as they shoot, move, and communicate around the battlefield. This month we’ll take a look at the US miniatures.
Clean sculpt lines make painting them painless although even the best sculptor in the world can do nothing about the challenges of painting OCP camouflage. My one criticism is that the shoulder straps of the US load-bearing vests come off as noticeably high and cleaning the flash around fiddly-bits like the carrying handles of the US M249s can be precarious.
Pros: Clean sculpts. Variety of poses. Clear equipment and loadouts.
Cons: Although there is a respectable variety in the poses, some appear static and stiff. Shoulder straps of the US LBVs are disproportionately high.

Overall thoughts: The miniatures are well designed and well cast. Anatomical proportions are accurate and it’s easy to identify the different pieces of kit the miniatures are equipped with. There was minor flash to clean upon arrival but no worse than your average pack of metal miniatures. The stances are fairly organic but err on the side of stiff — a positive if you avoid purchasing cartoonishly erratic poses.
You can pick these models up at our friends at Phalanx Consortium .
I’d be happy to finally see something for my money. I pledged for the rules and the Russians and haven’t see any thing yet. Beginning to have my doubts.
They look pretty nice. I backed the Kickstarter and am looking forward to getting my mins soonish.
How do they compare to other ranges like Spector or Empress moderns?
I don’t have either so I’m unable to provide a side-by-side comparison.
No worries, thanks anyways for the reply. Again they do paint up very well
Did you get any of the Russian Federation troops to paint up as well?
I did. Those are coming up next.
