Exclusive : New Napoleonic figure line by The Wargaming Company
By Tom Gall
The Wargaming Company, publishers of the Napoleonic Ruleset announced on December 19th they have been working to create their own line of figures for ESR.
This is especially exciting as of all the Napoleonic rulesets, ESR is thoughtful in their packaging. When you buy a particular formation for ESR, you’ve always received the exact number of figures that you needed to field that particular formation. Truth be told, I’ve often found an extra figure your two in the pack.
For me, as I’ve been working to paint and base my ESR army this is extremely helpful. I don’t need to be stressing over having to buy yet another package of something to meet some correct minimum so I can play.
Instead, I can be maximizing the use of the ESR uniform plates in the various campaign books so I get the uniform colors right.
The timing of the release of the new line of figures is slated for at the end of March, but The Wargaming Company is very realistic to point out that worldwide factors are conspiring against us all, so AdeptiCon is a goal, but it may have to slip for a variety of reasons.
The Wargaming Company has also recently released two updated campaign books. To Assure My Dynasty and both are available and if you’re like me, you’re looking to acquire the “lead” to play games out of the campaign guides.
The new figure line will scratch that itch!
What figures will we see? What is The Wargaming Company going to release? Towards that end, the teaser pictures are just starting to drop, without further adieu let’s have a look.
These are all preproduction so the final product can vary as the design and production process continues. First up, French!
French foot artillery.
Next a French cornet/musician. This would be more a later in the Napoleonic wars as Drum and Fife were standard for most of the Napoleonic era.
Next up is an eagle! Sharpe wanted one, now I bet you want one too!
A French Sapeur, ready for action.
Last but not least a French Light Cavalry officer ready to set forth.
You’ll note with all these figures, everything is singly based, which follows in the tradition of the past figures that The Wargaming Company has been selling for ESR.
Do you have questions? We do too and in the next article, we’ll confer with David Ensteness from The War Gaming Company. Drop your questions into the comments.
Since these are plastic how will they be packaged? Will they be similar to the old sets you made with individual figures in bags…or will they come on a sprue to be cut off.
