Firestorm Tunisia: Units
By Scott Grasse
One of the exciting features of a Firestorm campaign is the use of additional free units that are added to players forces for each battle. These additional troops represent the combat power associated with the units fighting on the campaign map – the more units attacking on the map, the greater the force attacking on the battle table.
Troop types in Firestorm Tunisia: Armor, Infantry, Delaying Force, Fortification, and Roadblock. In a traditional Firestorm campaign, a list of units is created by the campaign author for each Firestorm Unit on the map. When that unit is involved in a battle, a die is rolled to determine which unit from the pool is added to a players force.
Firestorm Tunisia introduces a new method of determining Firestorm units. Instead of a pre-made list of units to draw from, players build their own list, called a Firestorm Support Pool. There are rules on building the support pool to reflect an element of historical diversity and availability of units.
Prior to each battle, players draw from their pre-built pool, using special rules based on the Firestorm Troop type (armor, infantry, etc.) on the map.
Building Your Firestorm Support Pool
To build the Firestorm Support Pool you spend 46 points to purchase at least four units using the
following rules:
- All choices must be legal choices as support or combat units for one of your formations as if
you were simply increasing your force point total. Your support pool as a whole does not need
to be a legal formation by itself, only the individual unit choices do. - A maximum of two units may be Allied Support choices.
- No unit may cost more than 29 points.
- Only one unit may consist of tank teams with front armor of 5 or greater. This is designated
your Tank Support unit. - Only one other unit may consist of tank teams with front armor of 3 or greater.
- Independent teams such as an OP must be assigned to one of your support units and are
deployed only with that unit. - Command Cards may not be purchased as part of your support pool.
Determining Firestorm Units
There are five Firestorm Troop types in the campaign. Each type determines what units may be pulled from your pool. Some Firestorm Troops add new features, such as Pillboxes, Barbed Wire and Anti-Tank Ditches. The specifics will be posted in the forum for each battle.
