They Shall Not Grow Old

I walked out of the movie theater about three hours ago, and my heart is still thumping. No, it wasn’t Scarlett Johansson or some adventure flick and it wasn’t the next Fast and Furious installment. It was film taken over 100 years ago, of the men who served in the Great War. This blog features a lot of posts about historical wargaming from different eras and genres, and they are read and shared.

But something we don’t write much about is about the real people we are recreating on our tabletops. This isn’t a recount of some historical battle or a game I played, or a system tried out. Rather it will be my attempt to put into words, the images and stories I experienced at the picture show.

Heart of Leviathan: The Play Test

By Mitch Reed

Photos by Author and Image Studios

Note: The author is reviewing an early beta-test of the game and works on the development team for Heart of Leviathan.

You have seen the teases on Facebook and have wondered what this new game is all about. I was lucky enough to have Image Studios send me a beta copy of the game to playtest for the next few weeks. Walter Vail who runs was gracious enough to let me spoil some of the game for you.

I have been working with Walter on the rules for a while now, I love playing with Dreadnoughts, I have a ton of ships in the 1/2400 scale and have worked on some homebrew rules to play with my massive fleets.

Great War Forces- Teased

Many of you have been wondering about what will be in the Great War book, which is due out in March 2019. Before we delve into that I need to ask if you have taken advantage of the Great War sale being offered by Battlefront? If not, this article will make you want to stock up on what is left in stock.
The new book will be a lot like ‘Nam and Fate of a Nation; and it will contain the updated Version 4 rules for Great War and they will be the same as the new standard rules for all of the games. The Great War book will also contain all of the forces and special rules for the Great War in one big beefy volume.
The game is still played on a 4’x4’ table and the four missions developed especially for the Great War game is also included in the book. The special rules in the previous book are the same unless they have been incorporated into the rules with the switch to Version 4.

How to maximize your Collection with the Great War Sale

Battlefront is having a great sale on great war and many players want to know how they can best take advantage of it. While I will not spoil what is in the new book, I will give you some advice on how to either start a Great War army or expand the forces you have.
When the first book came out in 2015, I was able to get all four of the box sets and a lot of add-on items, I have also played each of the armies I collected back then.

Let me spoil one thing, all of the forces for sale will be used in the new book.
