So Battlefront is revisiting ‘Nam… and it looks like it will be a whole lot of new rules and ratings as the game joins Version 4 FOW with a new look, new ratings, and plenty of new options to play with.

This article will cover the ARVN. When we played Tropic Lightning/Tour of Duty, my army was the ARVN. They offered all the right gear at a great price and, in fact, were very innovative in how they met the PAVN threat.

The new Nam book by battlefront takes center stage again as Mitch and Iron Tom are joined by Brian Sherry.  The guys go over the ARVN, ANZACs, PAVN and the NLF.

With so many goodies in this book maybe a 3rd podcast is called for!

Rob and I did a test game with the new Nam rules for Team Yankee (Team Yankee Early War?) but instead of using traditional lists, we decided that since Team Yankee the novel is a what-if scenario, then why not do a what-if of the Oil Crisis of the 1970s!  In our case, we did a Canadian Tank force (Aussie Centurions) vs some T-55s and Motor Rifles out in a desert oil facility.    As usual, video bat-rep at the end.  Thanks to Rob for hosting as usual, this time on his awesome AFG board where I added my 15mm terrain to good effect:View from the industrial center

We last briefed you on our glorious regulars from North Vietnam, now we will cover the heroic Local Forces who strike at the enemy from the South and the Special Tasks units that attack the bases of the Capitalist.

Next month Battlefront will release the book ‘Nam, which covers the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1972. This book is a significant release for many reasons; it not only covers previous titles that covered the conflict; it also ushers in what will be a standard rules set for all Battlefront games and expands the forces that you can play with. While the Vietnam period may not be your thing (this will change) it shows us the way ahead for future releases and how they will link with one another. This book was released in a partnership with Osprey Press and this collaboration will also be behind the upcoming re-releases of Fate of a Nation and The Great War.
