North Africa: Support For Your FOW Desert Germans

By Richard Steer

A lot of the focus on the upcoming North Africa release for Flames of War has been on the new units that have been added, and the historical units that haven’t been. This is understandable because as gamers we love having new toys to play with. One area that I haven’t seen much discussion about is the force charts in the book and the way that the source material for the compilation has been combined. In particular, the German support options have some subtle structural changes that are worth taking a closer look at.

White Death: Mid War Finns in Flames of War

By Richard Steer

It’s been a long wait, but the Finns will soon be returning to  with the release in June of a 26-page booklet that allows them to be played in the Mid War era.

The Finnish Mid War list has three Formations: an Armoured Company, an Infantry Company, and a Light Infantry Company. The troops are all rated as Careful, Fearless Trained. All of the infantry units have the Hunters rule, which allows them to Cross-country Dash through snow, woods, and forests, and units in the Armoured Company and Light Infantry Company have the Crafty rule, giving them Tactics 3+.

And the Army Goes Rolling Along – A World War III Team Yankee American – Book Review

By Tom Burgess

I am very excited about the impending release of the new World War III Team Yankee American book. That may surprise many who know me as I have only ever played Soviet and East Block type forces in Team Yankee so far. But the reality is that US forces were my first purchase for Team Yankee and I have quite a collection of US units still boxed and waiting to be built.

I only shifted to Soviets to help the force balance in my local gaming area. By now my Soviets are quite complete and its time for me to go full throttle into Americans for Team Yankee with this new book.

The World War III Team Yankee American book is a significant expansion from the preceding Stripes US Forces in World War III book. All the formations and support that were available to the US player in Stripes are also in the new book. In addition to these, the new book has added the M1A1 Armored Combat Team, M2 Bradley Combat Team, M3 Bradley Cavalry Troop, Combined Army (Heavy) Company, Combined Arms (Light) Company, and the Light Attack Company.

Awake the Fuhrer, The German D-Day book is Spoiled

By Mitch Reed

What a summer for the Late War fans of Flames of War. First, the Fortress Europe book moves all of the Mid-War forces into the LW period then the US D-Day book hit the shelves and now those Yanks have an opponent, the has arrived.

Having seen the book in the proofreading stage I knew that this title would be one that German players like myself would just love. I know a lot of questions have been floating around online so let me answer those first. Yes, the Sd Kfz 250 half-track is back and is in the new Recce list and sorry, No the 21st Panzer is not in the book or represented in the cards.

The other thing to keep in mind that this book is the first of two books on the Germans in June of 1944, the second book will be a volume that focuses on just the Waffen-SS.

No Longer Forgotten; Bolt Action Korea

By Mitch Reed

Find the with Bolt Action Korea authors Steve Smith and Jon Russel, from the NOVA Open 2018 .

Long known as the “Forgotten War” the Korean conflict holds a unique place in history. It was never officially a war and to this day it has not officially ended. Due to these circumstances, it does not hold a place in our memory and we often forget the sacrifices of those who fought in the first major hot conflict in a very long Cold War.

The new Korean War book from Warlord Games not only pays homage to the combatants who fought in 1950-1953, but it also expands the game and brings a new wave of excitement for all Bolt Action players.

Blood & Guts: US Forces in Fortress Europe LW V4

By Tom Burgess
Bottom line up front (BLUF)…the US lists in the Fortress Europe are exactly what Battlefront said they would be. They let a player use his existing Version 4 Mid-War US collection in Late-War Version 4… and not much beyond that. I had to go back and remind myself of that goal while writing this review because honestly as a US player from Version 3 days, I was a bit disappointed that US options in Fortress Europe were not going to let me run the forces I wanted.

Preview: DEFCON ZERO; Realistic Modern Combat

BATTLE REPORT: DEFCON ZERO
EASTERN SYRIA, NEAR FUTURE
SYSTEM: DEFCON ZERO

Eight Russian contractors crouch against the wall, preparing to rush into a building. Eight men—each veterans of countless undeclared wars—know their enemy awaits on the other side. It’s unclear what unit the American infantrymen belong to, but they’re well-trained, well-disciplined, and a threat. That’s what brought the Russians here in the first place—an Iranian-backed oil concern paid Vladivostok Security Solutions a hefty fee to clean out the American military presence. As the squad leader gives a hand signal, asking for ready, gunfire erupts from the flank.
A squad of American infantry has infiltrated unnoticed, and opened fire on the Russians. Two men go down screaming while the unit returns fire. In a matter of minutes, the gunfire ceases, and the only sounds are the cries of the wounded.

This is DEFCON-ZERO in a nutshell. It captures the grisly bleeding edge of modern warfare.
