The lads from Montreal had their second annual Team Yankee tournament (I missed the first one) at JacHOBBY in Laval, a suburb of Montreal.  Their guys have come down to Ottawa for Canadian Nationals, so we returned the favour and crashed their tournament with myself, Rob, Scott and Andrew B.

The Store and Terrain

First of all, the store is fantastic, and they are the local seller of terrain and accessories.

I’m going to pimp their stuff despite not getting paid or anything, we spoke to the main guy, he basically designed 40k, WFB, RPG dungeon tiles and walls, Necromunda, and now has some 15mm stuff, seen below:

This past weekend the Twin Cities crew hosted the first ever Midwest regional tournament for Flames of War at Dreamers Vault in Minneapolis. The goal was to crown the regional champion for the year.  Between D6 Games in Rochester and the two Dreamers Vault locations in the Twin Cities, we’re really blessed to have an active and fun group to spend many a Saturday with pushing lead and rolling dice.

It was a 3-round Flames of War tournament, mid-war at 109pts. We had 18 players in attendance with the Novaks traveling the furthest. The special aspect of the tournament was players were to mark allegiance to a store and the top two scores from that store would result in taking the title of Regional Champion for the year.

The plaque is all ready to be filled in.  Thanks much to Keith Gilmour for all the planning and especially TOing the event.

The first Annual Pea Bowl was held at Pea Soup Anderson’s Restaurant in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country; the restaurant is located in the city of Buellton, California just a short drive north of the city of Santa Barbara. The event was originally imagined as a Team Yankee tournament and evolved into a general games day. Games of DBA, Flames of War and HG Wells’ Little Wars were hosted in addition to the Team Yankee tournament. The event was a success and I am glad to have accomplished hosting an event in my local area as I normally have to travel substantial distances to attend any gaming events.

Hey guys, what’s going on? Well, after a solid MONTH of painting nothing but Crusaders, I was ready for the Flames of War tournament portion of the No Dice No Glory Iron Man competition, at Fall In 2018 in Lancaster PA  (Apparently the locals make it rhyme with ‘kissed her’ not ‘Pastor’)    Anyways, while I would normally post my list and how I did, this time all I will say is, sometimes a good list in the wrong hands doesn’t perform well!   James Copeland and Chris Johnson helped me tweak out a Cavalry Crusader List, but I guess I’m not aggressive enough to field them correctly.     ‘Blah Blah Blah, let’s see pictures”  Alrighty!

Hi my name is Mitch and I am a gamer.

Our podcasts seem to have one drug reference in each episode, so it’s a well-worn joke to many of us here at NDNG. We’re always jonesing for that next gaming fix.

We are always looking for that new game to pick up in which we invest time and money for the ultimate payoff which is to have Fun.

So. over the last few months, I took the excitement of my latest enabler, Jon Russell from and decided to give Bolt Action a try. Bolt Action is now in its second edition and has been around for a while now. Two editions and I hadn’t tried it yet? Why not?

Perhaps it was for the same reason many gamers don’t try new games? We tend to look for the bad in a game in order to give us an excuse to ignore it. But, the only time I heard anything bad about Bolt Action was one person say it wasn’t his cup of tea. This excuse gave me the ability to avoid the game, to not paint 28mm models, and not pick up another money and time suck.

It’s not all about Flames Of War…

Flames Of War, as well as many other games, are being played and all nationalities can attend with a team. Many countries send the best of the best. In these articles, we follow the Danish Team, lead by Helge MacIntyre.

We managed to get a short interview with Helge and Chris Jackson, the captains from the US and DK teams at the ETC. In these articles, we give you a glimpse into the ETC 2018. The largest Team Tournament in the world.

Today we are taking a look at what may be the most intriguing book to come out so far for Flames of War (FOW) MW V4, Avanti. In this article, you will read how Avanti will change the tournament scene.

Verison 4 has really become much more of a dice game than the more historical simulation that FOW Verison 3 was. In the shooting step, it is now easier to hit previously impervious units (veteran, gone to ground, concealed and long range). Players are now able to roll a 7 or 8. To do so is difficult, but not impossible.

It’s easier to get dig out pesky infantry since repeat bombardments force a re-roll of successful saves. The more dice you throw, the better chance you have of killing what you’re shooting at.

Currently, it seems the key to what Battlefront is pushing, is horde armies. The more models you’re pushing around the table, the better. Crusader Swarms. Gobs and gobs of armoured rifle stands bouncing around the table. Or that guy who brings as many Stuarts as he can fit in his list with some heavy guns behind them.

Heck, even my German list, which has done very well, is all about getting as many Panzer III Short 5cms on the table that I can. I support these with Marders and other low expensive German units.

The recent wildfires in California actually impacted a December Team Yankee tournament hosted by Game Empire in Pasadena, CA. Shipments of the new Stripes book, and new models for the US faction were delayed due to being re-routed around the fires. But, the in-store demo copy gave players enough of a glimpse to see what they might be able to run. A few new units, or upgraded equipment did hit the tables in this tourney.

There were three US faction players (and a fourth player, in his first tourney with a borrowed list and models that did not use any new units or upgrades). Three Warsaw Pact players ended up in a three-way tie for first. The best showing from a US player was Kevin Morris, tied for fourth with Igor Torgeson (British). I, of course, managed to win a free set of dice to help me improve my win/loss ratio in the next tournament and climb out of last place.
