Watch out – A Spaghetti Western Kickstarter

When the man with a 3D printer meets the man with the right Kickstarter, the man with the 3D printer will print a lot! You can’t say 3DBreed, the Spanish STL files producer, sits on their hands at all. After the launch of the Persian/ Greek Kickstarter, they now time travel to the XIX century on the wild west frontier.

Join or Die – Wanted Kickstarter launched only a few days ago, with a base target of $1,000. They already broke it – as we write, it’s just under $21,000 with a lot of stretch goals already funded. For 35 euros, you get the basic reward of 32mm  seven Marshals, seven outlaws, and a two-story bank to defend or assault. This already is a good bargain, but with the stretch goals (as said, many are already unlocked) you get also Western props, the undertaker, a couple of deputies to fill the “good” ranks, a full range of Bounty Hunters, the saloon civilians, an entire Steam Train, the Dalton Gang, Mexican outlaws, the 7th Cavalry (on foot), the Sioux (on foot)and an assorted range of mounted Marshal and outlaws. A very rich plate!

I test printed five models 3D Breed sent to us as press test models. You can see the results here.

The test models have been printed with an Elegoo Mars 2 Pro with water-washable grey resin at 0.03 mm layer height.

The models are quite beautiful, with details like gun belts or spurs finely sculpted, and address the single small fault I didn’t fully appreciate in previous 3D Breed projects. In WW2 and Greek/Roman/Barbarian Kickstarters, the human figures were a bit “bulky”. Nothing you couldn’t correct with a 95% rescaling on the X and Y-axis, but I’m happy to see a new, more balanced, and graceful range. No additional adjustment is needed.

Here you can see the new Western range compared to the Carthaginian I recently printed for my next Saga army.

The Carthaginians are noticeably more “chunky”, and I printed them enlarging the X and Y-axis a bit to get them more slender. The Western range is printed 100% with no scale modification. 

While previous 3D Breed Kickstarters offered different scales, the range is 32mm only. You can scale the models, but some details could be lost like the smaller gun barrels at 1:100, for example. Never heard of a Far West game at 1:100 or 1:72, so shouldn’t be a problem.

I had at home some Black Scorpion miniatures of the Far West range. Here is a comparison – they seem perfectly compatible without any rescaling. If you want to mix the 3D Breed range with 28mm smaller ranges, though, just remember to reduce them slightly (circa 98% on all axis).

The 3DBreed miniatures are compatible with other 32mm ranges, like the excellent Western range from Black Scorpion miniatures.

I think The Join or Die Wanted Kickstarter at 35 Euros (less than $37) is a very good price – actually, I already bought it myself. Considering you’ll get at least 70 different models, plus a bank and a train, the Kickstarter is a real temptation. Considering it will end at mid-July, we can hope it will unlock even more goals, adding more value to those 35 Euros.

After the Kickstarter ends, and we are already sure it will be completed, these 3d models will cost much more – the March to Hell Rome miniatures, for example, now cost 399$, and with 35$ you can buy less than 20 3DBreed miniatures from a given range. So, if you think you’ll want to play Sherif and Deputy Vs Outlaws, better to take advantage of this very low price. “Sure, I’m sure!”.
