NDNG Podcast 10 – Armoured Fist

“Chairborne” Tom Mullane,  “Iron” Tom Burgess, and Dennis “Matt Varnish” Campbell look deep into the new gaming goodness, the British Mid-War “Armoured Fist” Flames of War expansion book.

What news forces does the new book add to Mid-War? What new forces does this book have the guys excited about starting? And…how awesome is the Churchill tank?

  1. If you take a DorG Sqn is there an option to take a Derbyshire Yeomanry Armoured troop , or are they only included in the Mailed Fist Armoured Car Squadron ?

  2. Matt Varnish ” Can confirm, 115pt event with opponent running 62 Honeys with the Scout Card makes me want to sell all my models. Just saying”

James Copeland 04/14/18. “Can confirm at 100 points you can win a 20 man tourney with 26 Stuart’s 12x Universal Carriers and 4x US M-10s. Using new scout tanks card.”

I would contest, that the card isn’t over pointed at all and fits nicely into the game. The 54 Stuart list is easily countered by a two fold approach.

    1. If the event is using battle plans, NEVER CHOOSE TO DEFEND OR MANUVERE!!! Always choose attack. This list I designed to destroy against a force that has reserves.

I play a VERYaggressive game, and if I can attack in force I will. Also limit your deployment as “best as possible” to bring all guns to shoot at max TOF.

Intel leak!!! I try and bait my opponent to deploy anti tank guns on one objective that I stack with tanks. Then on my first turn I run as fast as I can to the other side of the table, leaving machine gun trucks to keep those guns from limbering up to chase me down.

    2. This list can be defeated by splitting fire at platoons and not focusing one one to destroy it. Those tanks have a last stand of 5+, force the enemy to roll that dice. You will see platoons run faster than you can shoot them.

Finally, I would gladly change lists with anyone who want to see how easily this list can crumble. Just this weekend I played three opponents and the list that almost broke my formation was a seemingly weak German armored car formation. This list “the Stuart’s” to be played successfully requires a good understanding of the missions, a very aggressive mindset and a little bit of luck.

I will rarly advance in the open, I will rarely advance from center table.

I always chose to attack two flanks, this splits your fire.

I always build a list that I force my oppenant to have to chose what he shoots at. Never will I leave one platoon to be shot at. If shots are coming I will provide you with at least 3-4 options for your one platoon to shoot.

Also, my aggressive play style is further complemented by building a list that can play with 40% off the table.

This past week I played 3 forces, and all three were not prepared to play with reserves. The army was not functional with the added requirement of not having every model available on turn one. Leaving my adversary’s with 43, 56 and 49 points off the table when I, would leave a motor platoon and m-10 off. Leaving me with a completely effective force to both attack defend and counter attack at will.

    * of note not a single template weapon was used by me in this past weekend.

Hope this helps those guys who struggle to defeat hordesor simply aggressive people. You can, and you can do it with any list out there. If you need help look me up on Facebook.

    1. Same sort of Defence was put up by the BAR guys, I am sure 🙂 I guess the true test will be to see if you are still running these after the Scout card nerf (with or without the new card) if you truly don’t think the card was OP

  3. Is there a Recce Squadron list (the recce from an inf div) , and are there any 4.2″ mortars in the book ?
