Flames of War: Firestorm Gazala

During the lockdown we looked at ways we could help our local gaming stores once the hint of normalcy returned. While under lockdown we chatted a lot with our friends from the UK, the staff of , and Mark Goddard came up with an amazing idea, why not kick off another Firestorm Campaign for . When Mark approached me with the idea I immediately wanted to help support this great idea and I even enlisted our Iron Tom Burgess the commander for one of the teams.

We here at NDNG are huge fans of BTA and we are so glad to be working with them to bring the community a new campaign so they can slowly get back into face to face gaming. Because many of us are coming out of lockdown the pace of the campaign will be slower than in past Firestorm campaigns with three 2-week turns in order to give you time to get your games in.

As many of you know we have been playing (and losing to) Mark on Tabletop Simulator and he created the overall campaign map on that he created. Mark will also be the commander opposing Tom, so we hope the North American losing streak (Canadian Matt Varnish also lost to Mark) ends under Tom’s leadership.

I think he has is work cut out for him, Mark can roll.

If you cannot get your games in due to lockdown, please feel free to play a game on Tabletop Simulator, however, we want every player to work with their local LGS and arrange most of your games in the stores. I really miss gaming at a bunch of local gaming shops in my area, so I will be heading out to push my troops forward.

Now a word from Iron Tom…

I did not hesitate, even for a second, when this opportunity to be part of this campaign came up. I have run many online Firestorm Campaigns on the Battlefront Forums, for WWPD, and for NDNG in the past. They were always a lot of run and host.

I am looking forward to seeing how Table Top Simulator helps expedite the orders process. I always found this tricky to do on my previous forum based campaign efforts. On top of all of this, we finally have a new Firestorm Campaign design from Iceland’s own Jökull Gíslason to game with. Check out Jökull’s other excellent Firestorm Campaigns .

Mark Goddard, ever the gentleman, offered me the first choice of sides to command. As tempting as it is to step into Rommel’s shoes in perhaps his greatest victory, the British have been my “go to” mid-war force for all of Version 4 Flames of War. Plus if the British lose, why then we are just recreating history.

Most importantly, I really want to play out a lot of the tactical battles we generate in this campaign. My main gaming opponents have large Italian and German forces they surely would want to get on the table against my British troops as part of this campaign. And so I eagerly accept the charge of keeping the Rommel out of Tobruk as we thwart the Axis effort in North Africa.

Details of the campaign can be found
