HMGS Inc. in normal times has three historical gaming conventions a year, Cold Wars in the Winter to Early Spring, Historicon in July, and Fall-Inn in November. Historicon 2021 was moved to the Fall-Inn time slot and took place November 10th -14th, 2021 at the Valley Forge Casino Resort, King of Prussia.

This was the first convention that HMGS was able to have since Cold Wars March 2020 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It is located right off the PA turnpike near the King of Prussia Mall and about 30-40 minutes from the Philadelphia Airport.

Battle Front Miniatures sponsored a and Flames of War Tournament at Historicon 2021.  The Team Yankee Tournament took place on Thursday November 11th 2021 and the Flames of War Tournament took place on Friday and Saturday November 12th and 13th 2021. The Team Yankee Tournament had 3 rounds at 110 points and the Flames of War Tournament had 6 rounds at 100 points. If you play both Team Yankee and Flames of War you could play in 9 games over 3 days. One of the reasons I always liked playing Team Yankee and Flames of War at Cold Wars, Historicon and Fall-Inn was the variety of armies that the players used and also you will also get to see some really nicely painted armies.

Battle Front Miniatures provided the terrain boards for the tournament. Below are some pics of the really nice terrain boards that we got to play on.

Team Yankee at Historicon 2021

It was really nice to have Team Yankee back at Historicon 2021, it was not offered at the last Fall-Inn in 2019. The Team Yankee Tournament was 3 rounds at 110 points and we have 14 players. I played a Czech T-72 Battalion with a Soviet BMP Allied formation. It is a pretty balanced force with some nice low cost tanks and up skilled Artillery to go with a typical Soviet BMP-2 Battalion. I placed fifth overall in the tournament and was pretty happy of the combination of Czechs and Soviets in this list.

Flames of War at Historicon 2021

The Flames of War Tournament had 6 rounds at 100 points and had 20 players in the tournament. I played a Churchill Guards Heavy Tank Regiment and added a variety of support options. I’m still learning how to play this list and overall I’m happy with how it worked. After returning from the con I have made a 85, 95,105 and 110 point variants of this list and look forward to playing this list in 2022.

German Panzer Grenadiers from D-DAY German Book

Summary

I had a great time play nine games of Team Yankee and Flames of War over three days. I got to play against some really good players, and some armies that you normally do not see played and also got to play against some really nicely painted armies, and got some some good painting and modeling ideas from some of the players. Overall a great weekend and looking forward to Fall-Inn 2022.

I would like to thank Battlefront Miniatures for sponsoring the tournaments and Anthony Burger for putting up with us for 3 days and running two really great events. Hope to see you at Cold Wars for another set of Team Yankee and Flames of War Tournaments.

  1. Great article.

In your Flames of War list you are using the Decoy Tank company card. I though you had to have access to the Scout platoon or BA-64 platoon to use the card. I’ve build a similar list, but I took a Armoured Recon company and added two Panthers to that formation using the card.

Thanks in advance for your response.

    1. Troy Thanks for the question. The BA-64 recon unit is a support option and that is what I used with the Decoy Tank Company.

      1. Hi Howard,

I just noticed that there was a support slot for the BA-64, I guess I should have looked at the diagram instead of looking at the units in the support section. Good luck playing your list.
