Bringing Docks to the 4Ground

By Glenn Van Meter

I’ve been avidly playing Firelock’s Blood & Plunder for over a year now, and in that time I have constantly been on the lookout for more and better terrain options, especially as I intend to host some tournaments once COVID-19 risks are a bit more relaxed.

To that end, I have purchased terrain from Firelock’s own range, made some cardboard Spanish-style houses, purchased a few 3D printed options, and even bought a couple of Laketown sets from Games Workshop in the hopes of using the docks and older (albeit slightly fantasy) style houses in the future. So when Firelock Games announced a partnership with 4Ground to produce the “Ports of Plunder” range, I ordered a variety of kits to try out, including several of their dock pieces.

A Pirate’s Last Chance – “Raise the Black” The Last Hurrah

By Tom Chairborne Mullane

It’s peak season for leaf peepers here in New England. Cold temperatures usually accompany autumn in the North East, but this year has seen some really warm weather. I took the opportunity to play some demo games with my friend Tim outside.

Tim and the other gamers from in Catskill NY play a pretty diverse array of games. Blood and Plunder isn’t officially carried by the store, so I’ve been painting commissions for folks to get them started. I am painting a Pirate force for Tim, and he wanted a refresher on the rules before he dived into the kickstarter.

My Dad and I have also been selling hotdogs out of our roadside stand in Hudson NY as a way for him to kill some of his free time. (as a limo driver doing mostly airport work, he hasn’t had a lot of trips lately). So I packed my car full of Tables and Terrain, along with a bunch of my models, and headed for Hudson, NY.

Good Old Fashioned Law and Order: A Patriot’s guide to fighting revolutionaries

By Tyler Stone

has launched the highly anticipated next chapter of ‘Blood & Plunder’ with their latest Kickstarter; . NDNG received an exclusive, early preview of some of the factions and units coming to the game. In response to fellow Tales of the Sail caster , I demand law and order, unwavering discipline and bravery. Hence, I present the British Army.

Raise the Black focuses on this “law and order” era of the New World. In the 18th century, European powers sent their professional armies to defend the wealth of their colonies. Our sneak preview included the British Army (from 1690, to 1750) that I will be sharing with you today.

Piracy in the Age of Plastics: Firelock’s New Golden Age Pirates Faction List from Raise The Black

By Glenn Van Meter

The Gentlemen of Fortune over at recently gave us a preview snippet from the new expansion book Raise the Black from their upcoming Kickstarter, which kicks off on October 6th. As the new expansion brings the game into the 18th century and the Golden Age of Piracy, I thought it rather exciting that the first list spotted would be one of the new pirate factions. So, let’s raise the black flag and jump right in to see what it’s worth!

The new faction is the Golden Age Pirates (1690-1730), and they are what you would imagine a pirate crew to be from any Hollywood film. The faction special rules really help give this list the character you would expect in a force of bloodthirsty, throat-cutting pirates straight from the Spanish Main. They get the previous pirate faction rule allowing them to fly false colors when attacking, which lets them come upon their prey and catch them unawares – or at least start a lot closer to the ever-important booty.

These affordable MDF kits are the result of a collaboration with , and have all of the quality the community has come to expect from 4Ground’s scenery. Sharing the Spoils: Blood & Plunder at Cyber Wars

Wow, it’s been a while since I’ve written anything here. I’ve been busy with the ” podcast, and hanging out with the crew for our bi-weekly ” community painting sessions.

With the Co-pocalypse raging, there hasn’t been much to cover – until decided to put on , that is! Fellow TotS crewman Thomas ‘Chairborne’ Mullane and I interviewed pirate historian Benerson Little. Then we teamed up with Joseph Forster of ” to extract a fresh round of spoilers’ from Firelock’s Mike Tunez. If you want to watch as we raid Mike’s boat and interrogate him for 2 hours of podcasting gold, the video is on . Otherwise, I’ll share the juiciest spoilers here, so read on.

Blood and Plunder: Retake the Captive

From the creature comforts of the game-cave, it was time for a little , featuring 150pts of French Caribbean Militia vs a Pirate force.

Set near the local governor’s house, we marshaled our forces and rolled up a scenario from the No Peace Beyond the Line book. The dice picked our fate an escort mission and with the Pirate force no less doing the escorting. Obviously they’ve taken someone of import captive that the French must try and rescue from a grizzly fate.
