Review: Battle for Germany Deluxe- A Campaign Worth Refighting

By Mitch Reed

I can admit that I will probably never re-read many of the books in my collection. The same can be said for many of the wargames I own, after playing them a few times I have little interest in re-playing them. However, some games stand out as classics that you just have to keep in your collection and play over and over again.

Battle for Germany is one game that is a classic that not only I have played many times, I even have bought multiple copies of the game. If you love this game as I do, you will be excited that has released a deluxe version of the game that I recommend you pick up even if you already have a cherished copy.

Blood and Valor Starter Set Review

By Mitch Reed

Maybe the pandemic was a good thing for some of us gamers. We got a chance to read new rules to possibly play new games once in-person gaming resumes. Many of us also caught up on painting, something we never thought we would do.

One of the games that many people have been looking at since its late December 2019 release was Blood and Valor, a game we have covered here quite a bit. Coming from the crew at , Blood and Valor gives gamers a chance to play the war at the 28mm skirmish level that covers the war beyond the trenches. Well before the game’s release, the crew from stepped forward to produce starter kits for some of the major forces that fought in France during 1916-1918.

Marder III Ausf. H, Sd.Kfz. 138 – A Plastic Soldier Company Review

By Tom Burgess

One of my major projects that I completed in 2019 was building an all-plastic German Mid-War East Front Panzer Grenadier force. And of course, what Mid-War German force can you have without Marders backing it up?

Unfortunately, Battlefront (BF) only offers the Marder III  in one version and in metal resin. Luckily the Plastic Soldier Company Panzer 38(t) kit has the option to build two Marder variants. So I ordered a box from my local game store, Hard Knox Games, to add to my force.

Blood and Plunder: Painting the 6th Rate

I have been in a painting slump ever since November 2019. I have had this happen to me before where I go months without painting anything, however with the lockdown and the fact I really wanted to play with the amazing 6th Rate Frigate from so I found myself back at the table.

Like many of you I am under lockdown and I am itching for some gaming relief, well the good people at have finally released a PC port of their iconic board war game Lock and Load called . This project is one I was following for a while since it seems to been in development for a long time and now it is in early-release and has been giving me hours of fun while at home.

Learning the Lehr: Panzergrenadiers in D-Day German Forces in Normandy, 1944

By Tom Burgess

The Panzer Lehr Panzer Division has been brought into the realm of Version 4 Flames of War with the new D-Day German Forces in Normandy, 1944 army book. The elite Lehr has always been a FoW favorite with its Panzergrenadier platoons beefed up with extra Panzerschreck teams. Now there is, even more, to look forward to for veteran and beginning Panzer Lehr players. As the Panzer Lehr’s Panzer Regiment was a fairly standard German  Panzer formation, this article will focus on the infantry of the Lehr Division where it was far more unique.

Terrain Crate by Mantic – Cool 28mm Terrain for Blood and Plunder (and more)

By Tom Gall

If you enjoy playing Blood and Plunder or other skirmish games in 28mm, the one thing I love to have on the table is all sorts of brick-a-brack to give the scene plenty of flavor. I like my tables to look historic.

For this Blood and Plunder game on land, sure it looks like a little farmstead or a little inn, the fences fit it, the road is great, but I’m wanting a little more on the table top.

Where are the farm animals? How about a little wagon? Crates, barrels, the various things you’d expect to see in this kinda era and besides it can add in some extra places for impromptu cover that your heroes might need as they are doing their daring do.

The IDF Force You Shouldn’t Passover

By Mitch Reed

When we got the preview copy of the Oil War book from I was very interested in the possibility of playing a small IDF force so I can get the Pereh anti-tank platoon on the table, This unit has the ability to shoot anything on the table without needing line of site and uses a new special rule called NLOS.

Besides trying to get this unit on the table I also wondered what this model would look like, since it is a missile shooting platform that was disguised as a tank. The Pereh was in use secretly for over 25 years and was finally declassified in 2015 before being pulled from service in 2017.

My first attempt to make a small IDF force from Oil War used a small formation of Magach 6 tanks backed up by the Pereh platoon, so when I was sent these boxes to review I was excited to get the chance to try this force out on a table as bring you my review of these two new releases.

A Tale of Two Battles of Gettysburg

By Mitch Reed

Photos taken from the Command Post Games and Lost Battalion Games websites.

Gettysburg is perhaps the iconic battle in American history and has spawned dozens of games in many different formats which enable gamers to re-fight the pivotal Civil War battle.

One of the first games I ever owned was the 1977 Avalon-Hill Gettysburg, a game in which I enjoyed playing for years. The market is full of games that recreate the battle, from small quick to play games to multi-map monster games with thousands of counters.

So, whatever scale you desire to play the battle in you will have no problem finding the title that best suits your interest. While many of the classic games came out decades ago, companies are still producing new games with new mechanics to bring the battle to life on your table.
