Flames of War
Blasted Landscape II
Version 4 Mid War Tournament

The scorched desert sand cracked under the heavy treads of the Panzers, as they maneuvered into position against the approaching British columns. British infantry, supported by Grant tanks, Honey Stuarts and the new British tank, the Churchill, marched towards the Afrika Korps. Soon, the heat of the day would be upon them all, and the air would be filled with sounds of battle. A hard and bitter fight was ahead for both the Axis & Allied commanders in this Blasted Landscape.

played host to a Mid War V4 Flames of War tournament on Saturday, July 28th, Blasted Landscape II. Six players showed up to duke it out and vie for control of the desert sands. Two German players sought to bring victory in the North Afrikan theater, while four British commanders met the call to battle and strove to push the soldiers of the Third Reich to defeat.

Round 1-Hasty Attack

A German Panzer III Kompanie paired off against British infantry with armored squadron support. German 90th Light Africa Division faced off against British 8th Army Heavy Armored Squadron. A British Desert Rats Tank Company went against British Africa Force Infantry.

The Panzer III Kompanie pulled off a hard-fought victory against the British infantry company. Meanwhile, the 90th Light Division also claimed victory, leaving a trail of smoking armor in its wake, sustaining moderate casualties. And finally, the Brit on Brit violence saw both commanders walk away with no definitive victor.

Round 2-Dust Up

This scenario was most appropriate for the confusion of desert warfare.

This time the Germans mistook each other for the enemy and came to blows. While the British on British violence continued.

The Panzer Kompanie cleaned through the 90th Light’s defenses and came away with the victory.

Meanwhile, two British Infantry companies clashed with Churchill tanks, neither finding the edge over the other for a clear victor.

In another section of the desert, two British Tank Companies slugged it out, but found no tactical edge over the other, neither walking away the victor.

Round 3-No Retreat,

The Panzer III Kompanie clashed with the British Africa Force Infantry, while the German 90th Light fought against the British Desert Rats tank force.British Infantry faced off against a British Tank Company.

Churchill’s, coupled with unyielding infantry and minefields stalled the Panzer Kompanie in their tracks, claiming victory.

The 90th Light and Desert Rats fought one another to a bloody standstill, with no victor emerging.

The British infantry made the British 8th Army Heavy Armored Squadron pay for every meter of ground gained, between assaults and Churchill support. The British tank company couldn’t break through the lines, and the infantry company walked away with the win.
Overall, a good day was had by all battle commanders.
