Blood & Plunder: Picking Your Ship

By Mitch Reed

A common question from new Blood & Plunder players is about what ships they should collect to play in sea battles and the most common answer we have is “it depends.”

In playing with the ships in Blood & Plunder over the last few years the best advice I have is that you can go big or go small and a lot of that depends on the force you play and your personal playing style.

The Legends of Blood & Plunder

By Mitch Reed

When we think of the past we often tie the notable personalities of that period. In Blood & Plunder, the notables are at the forefront of the game.

Years ago one of the first things I noticed about B&P was that the characters, whether famous or infamous are a major part of the game. Every force needs a leader, so why not gamify some of the names we associate with the early colonial Americas?

European Cousins: ONUS! TRAIANUS and Fighters of the Pacific

By Mitch Reed

In 2023 two Kickstarter projects came to the mountain bunker from two European companies and after getting them to the table I found that these games shared some DNA that all gamers would appreciate. These two titles appear to be board wargames when you first glance at them, however, they play a lot like miniatures games. Both are excellent titles to add to your collection.

Preview: War Stories- WWII RPG

by Mitch Reed

Like many of you, I am willing to try any historical game, whether it be a board game, miniatures, or video game. However, one type of gaming I have never tried is role-playing games.

The new game from Firelock Games called War Stories has gotten me to change my mind and take the plunge.  Lead designer Gabriel Garcia really got my attention for this World War Two-based RPG when we chatted in my interview with him on our podcast. Prior that that discussion, I did not believe that a topic as WWII would translate well in the RPG format.

However, the depth and breadth of War Stories really had me wondering why this has not been done before.

Lunar: Mini Boots on the Moon

By Mitch Reed

One of our biggest fans sent me a message about a miniatures game he just purchased that was all about a conflict on the moon. I found that concept very interesting and thankful that it did not trigger my PTSD from the creation of the Space Force. I contacted the creators of the game over at Black Site Studio and they sent me the starter pack to try out. I quickly painted up the models and played a few games and I wondered why there is not a lot of buzz about this game.

Review: Jason Lives- Twilight Struggle Red Sea

By Mitch Reed

Twilight Struggle, which came out in 2005 is one of the most iconic and popular war games in our community, however, it is not a game that I would expose new gamers to or someone who wants to play a quick game.

This has now changed with Jason Matthews’ newest game, Twilight Struggle Red Sea: The Conflict in the Horn of Africa (TWRS), which is a great intro game to our hobby but also a game that you can finish in less than 40 minutes.
